The Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid (QCF) is aimed at individuals who intend to develop and gain formal recognition of their knowledge, understanding and skills of Paediatric First Aid.
The qualification is applicable to those with responsibility for infants or children in any setting.
By completing the two mandatory units, all learners will cover the essentials of Paediatric First Aid, including roles and responsibilities, assessing emergency situations, acting safely and effectively and providing First Aid to infants and children in a variety of situations. These situations could relate to breathing, being unresponsive, foreign body airway obstructions, wounds, bleeding, shock, fractures, dislocations; head, neck and back injuries; conditions affecting the eyes, ears and nose; chronic medical conditions, sudden illnesses, extremes of temperature, electric shock, burns, scalds, poisoning, bites and stings.
Learners will be prepared to progress to a qualification in the same subject area but at a higher level or requiring more specific knowledge. They will develop the necessary skills and understanding to advance this goal. They will be more suitable for relevant programmes of learning, as well as better prepared learners for employment and workplace support.
