Self Directed Support (SDS)

On 1st April 2014, The Scottish Government introduced The Social Care (Self-directed Support) (Scotland) Act 2013 allowing people to become more involved, included and part of the decision making regarding their health and social care provisions. The Act means that Social Workers and Local Authorities have a responsibility to offer support and give the correct information to those who are entitled to social care to help them feel involved and make the right agreed choices regarding their care plans.  This course will look into the ways SDS helps to meet an individual's needs, helps to maintain a person's independence, the different ways SDS can be received and the ways that you can be involved in the care of someone receiving SDS, and why your role is important.
