What is Depression?

Depression is one of the most common mental health problems for older adults in the UK, with 1 in 4 living with depression.  Depression is a mental health condition that causes individuals to feel persistently low, and can range from feelings of hopelessness in its mildest form to feeling suicidal at its most severe.  There are various triggers that can cause depression, and whilst older adults are the most susceptible to develop depression, it is not part of the ageing process.  This visual and interactive course will outline what depression is and how it impacts older adults, the different symptoms and treatments available, and your role, as a health / social care worker, in supporting older adults with depression.
